Pune News: MNS Warns Minister Dada Bhuse Against Entering Pune Over Alleged Hindi Imposition In Schools
Pune, June 25, 2025: The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has taken a firm stance against what it terms the “imposition of Hindi” in schools under the National Education Policy (NEP 2020). MNS has warned that Maharashtra’s School Education Minister Dada Bhuse will not be allowed to enter Pune until the decision mandating Hindi as a third language is officially withdrawn.
MNS alleges that there is a covert attempt to make Hindi compulsory in schools, which they believe is detrimental to the identity of Maharashtra’s mother tongue and harmful to the mental well-being of students. The party, following directions from its chief Raj Thackeray, has declared that protests will continue until a clear, written order is issued by the state education department clarifying that Hindi will remain optional and not compulsory.
MNS Pune city president Sainath Babar tweeted: “It is not right to force a third language on young children in schools. Many education experts also oppose this. Until the Hindi imposition decision is rolled back, we will not allow Minister Dada Bhuse to visit Pune.”
While the state government has not yet issued any final notification, media reports suggest that Hindi is being proposed as an optional subject. However, MNS remains skeptical due to the absence of an official written directive.
The Central Government, under NEP 2020, has promoted Hindi as a recommended language, leading to growing concern among regional parties in Maharashtra. Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis earlier defended the promotion of Hindi, calling it the national language and questioning the opposition to it.
Due to MNS’s warning, Minister Bhuse’s upcoming official visit to Pune may face serious disruptions. If the government fails to clarify its stance, the controversy is likely to escalate, drawing responses from other regional parties and making Hindi imposition a key political flashpoint in Maharashtra in the coming days.
