Pune News : Out of 34, PMC’s eight swimming pools remain shut

Pune: Pune residents are seeking ways to beat the heat as temperatures rise. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) offers state of the art swimming pools to cool off as the temperature soars, but 8 swimming pools out of 34 are temporarily shut and won’t open until next year. 

Swimmers can avail the service at the remaining 26 swimming pools by opting for a monthly pass ranging from Rs 250 to Rs 350 and a daily fee of Rs 20.

However, out of the total 34 swimming pools in Pune, eight are closed due to construction work, leaving citizens with limited options. These closed swimming pools include Late Keshavrao Dhere Swimming Pool, Near Chima Garden, Yerwada, Vitthalrao Tupe Krida Sankul, Survey Number 164 (Part), Hadapsar, 

Pune Aundh S Number 152 Swimming Pool, Dr Abdul Kalam Swimming Pool and Vyayamshala, S No 11, Pashan, Survey Number 4/1/1 and 4/1/2 Swimming Pool, Kharadi, S No. 66/5/1 to 4+13/5 to 9+24+28 Swimming Pool, Kondhwa Budruk and Late MLA Ramesh Wanjale Swimming Pool, Vadgaon Budruk.  

It is expected to take a year for the construction work to be completed.

When asked about the swimming pools, Santosh Varule, head of PMC Sports department, stated, “PMC has a total of 34 swimming pools, out of which 8 swimming pools are under construction and it will take a year to get complete. We do not have any online booking system, but citizens can visit the swimming pools in the area and register at the centers.”
