Pune News: Park Infinia Society Residents In Fursungi Raise Alarm Over Rising Stray Dog Attacks, Seek PMC Help
Residents of Park Infinia, a large residential township in Bhekrai Nagar, Fursungi, have raised an urgent plea to the authorities, highlighting a series of aggressive dog attacks within their premises that are endangering lives and creating widespread fear.
In recent months, at least 7 to 8 incidents involving the same pack of aggressive stray dogs have been reported. The latest case involved a small child who was left severely traumatized, prompting renewed calls for action. Parents now fear for their children’s safety and are hesitant to allow them to play or walk alone, even within the society.
What has particularly alarmed residents is that even regular animal feeders and dog lovers in the community—typically supportive of stray dogs—have expressed serious concerns about the aggressive behavior of this specific group. They note that while many other stray dogs in the society live peacefully among the residents, this particular pack poses a recurring threat.
Despite repeated complaints to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), there has been no effective or lasting intervention. Residents allege that the lack of response is putting the safety of over 6,000 people in jeopardy.
The community urges the PMC and animal welfare authorities to take immediate, humane, and effective action to address the issue before another serious incident occurs. While Park Infinia remains committed to coexistence with stray animals, the safety of its residents, especially children, must take priority.
PMC Says Action Is As Per AWBI Guidelines
In response to recent complaints about aggressive stray dog attacks in residential areas, Dr. Sarika Funde, Veterinary Chief of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), confirmed that necessary action is being taken in accordance with Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) guidelines.
In her response to the queries raised by Pune Pulse, Dr. Funde informed that certain dogs have been caught and are currently under observation. “We are conducting a vaccination drive at the location itself. There is no need to catch and relocate the dogs in case of vaccination,” she clarified.
Dr. Funde further stated that dogs will only be picked up for sterilisation purposes.
Dog Feeders Too Scared Of Attacks On Humans As Well As Pet Dogs
A regular animal feeder from the society shared concerns regarding the growing menace of aggressive stray dogs on the premises. According to the feeder, the society is home to over 20 stray dogs, of which 13 were vaccinated last October, while the rest could not be reached as they ran away. While most of the vaccinated dogs are also neutered, the newer ones—particularly a few aggressive ones—are not. These aggressive dogs have been attacking both residents and pet dogs without any provocation, as confirmed by CCTV footage. The feeder, who regularly cares for the animals, even took a rabies vaccine after one such dog attacked their pet. Despite attempts to calm the aggressive dogs through consistent feeding, their behaviour has not changed. As a result, fear and hostility have spread among residents, who now struggle to differentiate between harmless and aggressive strays.
