Pune News : PCMC Tax Department Recovers Rs 500 crores in 120 days

The Taxation and Tax Collection Department of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has taken various measures towards property tax collection in the current financial year 2023-24. 

In the last four months from April to July, the tax collection department has collected a record amount of Rs 500 crore. Interestingly, in the last financial year (2022-23), only 287 crores were recovered in the four months from April to July. Compared to last year, the collection of property tax has increased by 210 crores. 

The Taxation and Tax Collection Department of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has been continuously setting new records of collection since last year. Under the guidance of Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh, Assistant Commissioner of Tax Collection Department Nilesh Deshmukh has started a pattern with the help of new ways to collect maximum property tax. 

Accordingly, data analytics, social media awareness, encouraging citizens to pay property tax through various competitions, taking out the list of those who have not paid the property tax of the municipal corporation for the last five years and giving them confiscation notices, taking confiscation action against them, telecalling and sending SMS to the defaulters, distribution of hundred percent bills from Siddhi project. etc. are being emphasized by the tax collection department.

          Employees of the tax collection department are also being trained on how maximum property tax can be collected in minimum time with the help of new technology. The result of all this is that the amount of property tax payment by the citizens has started increasing and in the first four months of the financial year, 3 lakh 29 thousand 470 property owners have paid a tax of 500 crores.

Shekhar Singh, Commissioner, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation said,”It is because of the responsible taxpayers who contributed towards reaching the new milestone of Rs.500 Crores. The Taxation and Tax Collection Department is creating public awareness among the citizens through various activities. Citizens are also getting a good response to these activities and the rate of timely payment of property tax by them has increased. It is expected that Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s tax collection target of 1000 crores will be fulfilled in this financial year. While doing this, the central government has taken up the task of people-oriented reforms in the property tax system as indicated. Improvements are expected to be made in the coming year.”

“We are innovating with the help of new technology to collect property tax. All the officers and employees of our department are working hard to fulfill the target of one thousand crores of tax collection. 500 crores have been recovered so far. Property owners also need to come forward on their own to pay property tax. Otherwise we will have no option but to take action against defaulters,” said Nilesh Deshmukh, Assistant Commissioner, Taxation and Collection Department.
