Specialist doctors of DPU Private Super Specialty Hospital in Pimpri removed a 25 cm lump from the leg of a 50-year-old person. Removal of the lump saved the patient’s life. Doctors succeeded in removing the lump from the patient’s leg.

As per further information from the hospital, the patient realized that he had a large lump on his left leg, which was causing constant pain. Also, the pain increased after walking or standing. So, they could not stand for a long time. As a result, their feet were seen to be swollen. So, he was admitted to DPU Hospital on 23 November.

During the medical examination of the patient, it was noticed that he was suffering from this pain for about six months. As the pain became unbearable and began to affect his daily activities, he decided to go to the doctor. As per the advice of several other doctors, the initial diagnosis of cancer was reported and the possibility of losing his leg was predicted.

A lump in his leg had encroached on his nerve. So, there was little chance of saving his leg. After all the necessary tests, it was found that there was no cancer.

Finally, it was decided to operate on his leg. On 10 November, oncologist Dr Prashant Chandra and Head of Cancer Surgery Department Dr Sameer Gupta performed this surgery successfully. During this surgery, he preferred to save the nerves supplying the leg muscles. Nerve damage would have left him permanently paralyzed and disabled. Since this surgery was complicated, the surgery took more than three hours. The patient recovered after surgery. The patient was discharged home after seven days of treatment as he was able to walk.

Dr P D Patil, Chancellor, Dr D. Y. Patil University, Pimpri, said “We are trying to take the healthcare services in Pune and Pimpri to the global level while providing good quality treatment by considering the patient as the focal point. We are able to perform complex surgeries with ultimate ease and precision while strengthening the healthcare infrastructure.”

Dr Bhagyashree P. Patil, Pro-Chancellor, Dr D. Y. Patil University, Pimpri, said “I am focused on enabling the latest technology and infrastructure needed in such complex cases to give Pune an important position in the field of health tourism globally. I congratulate the expert doctors who saved the patient’s life in this complicated case.”

Dr Yash Raj Patil, Treasurer and Trustee, Dr D. Y. Patil University, Pimpri, said “I congratulate our expert doctors who have maintained the reputation of the hospital by achieving success even in complex cases. I also thank the patient and his relatives for trusting us. We strive to maintain our reputation as a one stop hospital providing quality healthcare services. For that, saving the patient’s life in such a complicated case is a part of it.”

In this regard, Chief Executive Officer of DPU Private Super Specialty Hospital Dr Manisha Karmarkar said “I congratulate all the doctors involved in the surgery. Patient centric treatment is the hallmark of our hospital. We are committed to providing quality healthcare and safety to our patients at all times.”

Oncologist Dr Prashant Chandra said “The surgery was so complicated that if there had been a mistake, the patient would have been permanently disabled. It would have been a huge loss. Also he is not able to walk on his feet. This lump covered the entire thigh area. So it was difficult to find the nerve.”

Dr Sameer Gupta, Head of Cancer Department, DPU Private Super Specialty Hospital, said “Such complex surgery required the latest technology. We are thankful to the management of DPU Private Super Specialty Hospital. He consistently provided good facilities and always encouraged us. Therefore, it was possible to save the lives of patients by performing such complex surgeries.”
