Pune News: PMC Instructs Private And Government Hospitals To Register Birth And Death Records Online
Pune, October 21, 2024: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has directed all private and government hospitals in the city to register births and deaths online through the Central Government’s Civil Registration System (CRS). The PMC health department issued a circular on October 18, emphasizing the need to streamline the registration process amid ongoing technical issues with the CRS.
Since March 1, 2019, birth and death registrations in the city have been managed at 15 PMC ward offices under sub-registrars and regional medical officers. However, with the Central Government revamping the CRS portal since 2014, the PMC aims to improve the system by involving hospitals directly in the online registration process.
The guidelines stipulate that hospitals will receive institutional logins for the CRS portal. Sub-registrars and ward medical officers will provide login credentials, while hospitals are required to appoint data entry operators for the task.
Dr. Manisha Naik, assistant health officer and Head of the Birth and Death Department, emphasized that this initiative aims to enhance efficiency and transparency. “Hospitals must obtain institutional user IDs and passwords, and data entry operators should be properly trained,” she said.
PMC health chief Dr. Nina Borade added that both private and government hospitals are required to submit the digitally recorded data to sub-registrars and regional medical officers within three days for official processing.
