MSRDC Urges Crackdown On Illegal Parking By Heavy Vehicles On Pune-Mumbai Expressway
Pune, October 21, 2024: The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has pressed the state highway police to take stringent action against trucks and heavy vehicles parked illegally along the Pune-Mumbai expressway. Over the past two months, MSRDC has sent multiple notices highlighting the dangers posed by these vehicles, especially in the ghat sections of the expressway.
Despite designated truck bays available for parking, many heavy vehicles are often found parked on the roadside, leading to traffic congestion and safety hazards. Travelers frequently express concerns about illegal parking. A regular commuter, noted, “I saw numerous trucks parked dangerously on the expressway, creating risky conditions and causing bottlenecks.”
Similarly, a regular traveller, Saleel Kale, recounted how an illegally parked truck in the Lonavala ghat recently led to a major traffic jam. “There were long queues of vehicles due to a truck blocking the road. Immediate action is needed to prevent such incidents,” he said.
MSRDC superintendent engineer Rahul Vasaikar confirmed the agency’s efforts, stating, “We have issued two to three letters to the highway police, urging them to act against illegally parked trucks. These vehicles cause traffic congestion and hinder rescue operations during accidents.”
A senior highway police official, speaking anonymously, mentioned that the police continuously take action against such vehicles. “Some trucks stop due to mechanical issues or for driver rest, but we still act against them to ensure road safety,” he added.
