Pune: The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) bus services were affected due to the two day strike called by the four private bus operators in Pune. The contractors went on strike demanding payment of Rs 99 crore pending for months by PMPML administration.  As a result, around 907 buses remained off the roads, causing inconvenience to passengers.

After two days of strike, the contractors finally called off their protest on Monday night, following the payment of Rs 60 crore towards the overdue bill. The remaining amount will also be paid soon. With the end of the strike, the PMPML bus services will resume at full capacity from Tuesday.

Several political leaders from various parties met with PMP President Om Prakash Bakoria on Monday to discuss the restoration of bus services. The leaders, including MLA Ravindra Dhangekar, BJP city president Jagdish Mulik and NCP city president Prashant Jagtap, demanded a solution to the strike.

“The bill of Rs 90 crores were pending, of which Rs 60 crores have been given while pending Rs 30 crores will be paid. In this Pimpri Chinchwad and Pune Municipal Corporations have paid the money, whereas, these private contractors have assured that they won’t go on strike. The bills pending till January have been cleared and pending bills will be cleared soon,” said Omprakash Bakoria, Chairman and Managing Director of PMPML.

The two-day strike caused significant inconvenience to the public. However, the payment of the overdue bill has brought relief to the affected passengers, who can now resume their daily commutes without any further disruptions.
