Pune News: Residents Of NIBM Road Seek Order For Prosecution Of PMC Officials Over Neglect, Endangering Citizens' Safety
PUNE: A formal request has been submitted to authorities demanding the prosecution of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) officials for their negligence in maintaining the road from SM Ghule Chowk to D Casa Building in Mohammadwadi-NIBM Annexe by the members of NIBM Road Annexe Forum. The road, in a state of severe disrepair since 2014, poses significant risks to residents due to potholes, deteriorating tar, broken concrete, lack of footpaths, poor lighting, and overflowing drainage. The members have written a letter to the National Human Rights Commission.
Despite initial intervention by citizens through the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the road has worsened over the years, leading to a series of hazards. Vulnerable groups such as senior citizens, women, children, and low-income residents are especially affected, with patients experiencing delays in receiving medical care due to unsafe road conditions.
The request urges the Commission to take strict actions, including:
- 1. Prosecution of PMC Officials: Initiate legal action against officials responsible for roads, land acquisition, and building permissions for violating laws and endangering lives.
- 2. Investigation into Contractors: Look into the negligence of private contractors handling streetlight maintenance.
- 3. Police Report: Seek a detailed report from the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) to ensure public concerns are addressed.
- 4. Fines and FIRs: Impose fines and file criminal cases against the officials responsible for the ongoing neglect.
- 5. Counseling for Officials: Recommend counseling for PMC officials to address their apparent lack of empathy for citizens’ welfare.
- 6. Probe into Former Representatives: Investigate the role of former public representatives to determine their involvement in the issue.
This appeal underscores the urgency of addressing the unsafe conditions and holding responsible officials accountable for their inaction.
