Teachers in the primary schools of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) were receiving 50 percent of their salary each month, which was allocated by the state government to the PMC. However, the government revised its policy and opted to directly deposit 50 percent of the salary into the teachers’ bank accounts instead of channelling it through the municipal corporation.

However, there has been a lot of confusion in this salary distribution, some teachers have received 100 percent salary in their accounts while others have received different amounts like 50 percent and 40 percent. Meanwhile, the municipal administration has sought guidance from the state government in this regard.

The financial condition of many municipalities in the state is fragile, there is no money left for the salaries of the employees. It is affecting the teachers. Therefore, the government decided to directly deposit 50 percent of the salary amount paid to the local bodies directly into the bank account of the concerned teacher.

Recently, the government deposited the salary for the month of December directly into the bank accounts of teachers in Pune Municipal Corporation schools. However, confusion arose as the deposited amount varied significantly from the expected 50 percent. Upon inquiry with the education department clerks, the exact salary amount could not be ascertained.

Sachin Dimble, State President of Municipal Corporation Primary Teachers Union said, “Earlier, 50 percent of the salary of primary teachers was being deposited by the state government to the Municipal Corporation. But now decided to deposit it directly in the teacher’s account. But there has been a confusion in the distribution of salaries, teachers have been paid 100 percent, 60 percent, 40 percent.”

Notably, 50% of the salary of permanent service teachers in local government schools is paid by the concerned municipality. The remaining 50 percent of the salary is paid by the state government. While salaries were being paid in the same manner for the last several years, the state government has changed the salary distribution policy.

To avoid confusion, it’s recommended to stop this method and the state government should pay the salaries of Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation schools as before.
