Pune News: Stray Dog Mauls 7-Year-Old Boy In Model Colony Park, Cheek Ripped After Attempt To Pet It
In a terrifying incident in Pune’s Shivajinagar area, a seven-year-old boy was severely injured after being attacked by a stray dog at a municipal garden. The child, identified as Narendra Sher Bahadur Bista, was playing in Chittaranjan Vatika with his friends when the attack occurred.
Narendra had gently stroked the stray dog’s head, unaware of the danger. Suddenly, the dog lunged at him, dragged him about 15 to 20 feet, and bit into his cheek, causing serious facial injuries. Fortunately, his friends acted quickly, forcing it to release the boy.
Narendra was rushed to Sassoon Hospital for initial treatment. However, the severity of the wound required plastic surgery. His parents sought help through social worker Ravindra Salegaonkar, who connected them with MLA Siddharth Shirole. Shirole coordinated with a private hospital administrators, where doctors successfully performed the reconstructive surgery under a charitable scheme.
Shivajinagar constituency MLA Siddharth Shirole shared a message on his Meta account, “Seven-year-old Narendra Sher Bahadur Bista was severely attacked by a stray dog in the Chittaranjan Vatika area of Model Colony, which resulted in the complete detachment of his left cheek. His relatives immediately rushed him to a hospital, but considering the severity of the injury, he had to be shifted elsewhere for advanced treatment. My colleagues, Ravindra Salegaonkar and Vikas Dabi contacted my office, and we quickly arranged for urgent and specialized medical care. The concerned authorities took prompt action, admitted the child without delay, administered the necessary anti-rabies injections, and successfully conducted surgery the very next day. After the treatment, I visited Narendra along with my team and expressed gratitude to the hospital staff. I was truly moved by the courage and resilience shown by Narendra at such a young age. It’s hard to predict where and how we witness the strength of the human spirit—but in Narendra, I experienced it firsthand.”
Local residents, shocked by the incident, came together to raise ₹25,000 to support the child’s medical expenses. Meanwhile, authorities took action against two security guards responsible for safety at the park.
The incident highlights growing concerns over stray dog attacks in public spaces and the urgent need for improved municipal measures.
