Pune: Three teenagers lost their lives on Sunday night after they were struck by a local train on the railway tracks near Gopalpatti in the Manjari Budruk area, police said.

The victims have been identified as Prathamesh Nitin Tinde (18) from Kalepadal, and Tanmay Mahendra Tupe (18) and Tushar Shinde (19), both residents of Gopalpatti.

According to officials, the Pune–Daund DEMU local, which departed from Pune railway station around 8:15 pm, hit the teenagers at approximately 8:30 pm. Police added that there are no CCTV cameras in the vicinity of the accident spot, and investigators are trying to trace anyone who may have witnessed the incident.

Teams from the Hadapsar Police Station, Pune City police, and the Government Railway Police (GRP) reached the location soon after receiving the alert.

A detailed probe is underway by the police. The bodies were taken to a hospital for postmortem examination, and the families of the deceased have been informed.

Further investigation will focus on establishing the exact sequence of events leading to the tragedy.
