Pune News : University Circle to go ‘Traffic Signal-Free’ to facilitate speedy traffic movement

Pune : A rotary traffic system will be implemented at Acharya Anandrishiji Chowk (Savitribai Phule Pune University Circle) from coming Monday onwards, that is February 13.

Further in order to avoid traffic jams here, it has been planned to keep the University Circle traffic signal-free so that the traffic on Ganeshkhind road can move smoothly and speedily.On behalf of Pune Metro Line 3 on the Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar route, a double-decker flyover is planned at this intersection and additional barricading will have to be done for that. The rotary traffic system is planned to be implemented as a plan to avoid possible traffic jams that may occur due to this.

The rotary system will be implemented on an experimental basis from Monday, 13th February 2023 and further decisions will be taken after seeing the outcomes of this pilot project, the traffic planning officials of Pune Metro Line 3 in coordination with Pune Traffic Police Department informed.

As per the newly planned rotary traffic system, the vehicles coming to University Circle from Baner Road and Aundh Road will be able to take the left lane towards Shivaji Nagar immediately by taking advantage of the ‘Signal Free’ system. At the same time, the necessary time will be given to pedestrians to cross the road at University Circle.

A U-turn is currently open at Cosmos Bank to approach Senapati Bapat Road via Ganeshkhind Road; But now, by closing the mentioned U-turn, a right turn has been allowed from the Senapati Bapat road junction. Also, all the traffic coming from Senapati Bapat Road (from Chatushringi Temple) towards University Circle will have to take a left turn from Senapati Bapat Road junction and divert straight to Pashan Road. According to the new rotary traffic system, the following route can be used to go directly to Aundh via Ganeshkhind road:

Route 01: From Ganeshkhind Road and Senapati Bapat Road for vehicles going towards Pune University, Chatushringi Police Station, Kendriya Vidyalaya and Kasturba Gandhi Colony, take a right at Pashan Road at Sinhagad Gate (Pune Rural Police Headquarters) and take a right at Baner Road, take a right at University Circle and take a left towards Aundh.

Route 02: Pashan Road to Abhimanashree Society, Pashan Road Junction, turn right to Abhimanashree Society. From Baner Road Junction, take a right turn on Baner Road, straight through University Circle, and take a left towards Aundh.

Route 03: From Ganeshkhind road and Senapati Bapat road towards Aundh take Pashan Road to Abhimanashree Society. Pashan Road Junction, turn right to Abhimanashree Society, Baner Road Junction turn left to Baner Phata turn right to Sarja Hotel Corner turn left to Croma Mall Road or Baner Phata turn right. And traffic can reach the desired destination by road via Parihar Chowk.

Pune IT City Metro Rail Ltd., the concessionaires of the Pune Metro Line 3 project Mentioned that this rotary traffic and the traffic signal-free system have been suggested to make it easier and faster for commuters to reach their desired destination from Ganeshkhind road via university circle. It will also facilitate the citizens to save commuting time on this stretch.

The Pune Metro Line 3 work on the Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar route has received good support from the citizens right from the beginning and we are sure to continue receiving the same cooperation and support in the future.
