PwD mobile app facilitates voting process for differently abled voters

Pune News : The Election Commission has developed ‘PwD App’ to increase the participation of people with disabilities in the voting process and enable them to vote easily, informed District Collector Dr. Rajesh Deshmukh.

Administration will be providing special facilities and concessions so that people with disabilities are not deprived of the voting process and also do not face any challenges while voting. Ramps and wheelchairs will be arranged at each polling station. The facility of postal voting has also been made available to the differently abled voters.

Taking into account the total number of disabled voters at the polling stations, the district administration will provide the necessary facilities for such voters. Magnifying glasses and Braille ballot papers will be provided for blind and visually impaired voters, informed the District Election Branch

Person with disability can download the’PwD’ mobile application and get registered. Then after registration the person has to give details of the help his/her needs and accordingly, the person will get a unique registration number. After completing registration process he/she will get further assistance in the voting process.

The voter awareness programs are being organised in Kasba Peth and Chinchwad assembly constituencies so that no voter stays away from the election process. Through this, the initiative has been undertaken to recruit volunteers to help disabled people, senior citizens, physically challenged people to reach and return from the polling station.
