Pune, June 19, 2025: Residents of NIBM Annexe, particularly from Dorabjee Paradise Row House Bungalow, Dorabjee Paradise Society, VTP Celesta, and Urban Space Phase 1 and 2, have decided to temporarily call off their planned hunger strike that was scheduled for June 22, following an assurance from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) that the long-pending pipeline laying work will be completed within three months.

The agitation was spearheaded by Advocate Kishor Baligar, who thanked Pune Pulse for amplifying the residents’ concerns.

“After the news was published, at least five PMC officials from different water departments, including the Pune Cantonment Water Works (Lashkar Water Works), visited us. They assured us that the connection work will be completed within three months,” Baligar said.

However, he also clarified that while the hunger strike is temporarily withdrawn, the residents’ fight for regular water supply is far from over.

“The overhead water tanks near Dorabjee Paradise were constructed over eight years ago, yet residents are still completely dependent on tanker water,” he added.

Pune Pulse also spoke to Rajesh Shinde, Executive Engineer, Lashkar Water Supply, who shared a progress update on the project.

“Out of the 12-kilometre pipeline, only 1 kilometre remains. Once this final stretch is completed, connections to the surrounding societies will follow. The main transmission line is pending, but we are committed to finishing the work at the earliest.”

Residents have decided to monitor progress closely and remain united in their demand for permanent water solutions, urging PMC to follow through on its latest promise. The issue has spotlighted the pressing infrastructure challenges in rapidly growing suburban pockets of Pune.
