Pune: No New Leopard Sightings In Aundh; Officials Warn Against Fake AI Images, Ask Residents To Use 1926 Helpline
Pune, 24 November 2025:
The Forest Department has confirmed that there have been no new sightings of the leopard in the Aundh area after 4 am on Sunday. “Despite an extensive night search operation carried out by department staff and the RESQ team—using thermal drones, foot patrols and vehicle-based surveillance—no visual evidence or pugmarks of the animal were found, ” Mahadev Mohite, Deputy Conservator of Forests, Pune informed.
Officials said the leopard has not been captured on any camera, nor have fresh tracks been detected, indicating that it is likely the animal has moved out of the RBI Colony and Sindh Society region. Citizens have been urged to remain alert but not panic.

Authorities also expressed concern over the growing circulation of AI-generated fake leopard images on social media and housing society groups. Such misleading visuals, they warned, create unnecessary fear and obstruct real rescue efforts, as teams must spend time verifying false reports.
The Forest Department has strictly advised residents not to share unverified or fabricated photos, videos or messages. Those spreading misinformation may face legal action under existing regulations.

Officials emphasised that the Forest Department and RESQ CT teams are continuously monitoring the situation. Citizens have been requested to rely only on official updates and immediately report any suspicious movement or credible information to the helpline 1926.
Responsible reporting, authorities said, is essential to ensure that genuine alerts receive timely attention and that public safety efforts are not disrupted.
