Pune: The number of patients suffering from vomiting and diarrhoea has been on the rise in the city in recent days. While eye disease remains uncontrolled, the increasing cases of vomiting and diarrhoea are causing fear among the citizens. However, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has not provided any information on this matter.

Numerous juice centers, tea kiosks, and vada pav shops are operating without a food license. This raises the question of why the health department has not taken any action. The disease is spreading in several areas due to unsanitary conditions and contaminated water sources. Despite the administration’s knowledge of these issues, they are putting the citizens’ health at risk.

Every day, people are seen consuming food from various places, such as hotels and street vendors, along with drinking water. However, most of us do not consider the nutritional value of the food we eat. It is observed that proper food preparation practices are not followed in many places. As a result, many citizens have been experiencing issues with stomach upset for the past few days, resulting in vomiting and diarrhoea. It is unclear whether this is caused by contaminated water or eating outside food.

While talking to Pune Pulse, Dr Subodh Bawage, Pediatrician at Ashwini Clinic in Kondhwa said, ”Many people are suffering from food poisoning due to consuming junk food and contaminated water. It is crucial to drink filtered or boiled water, especially during the monsoon season. With the ongoing festivals and holidays, more people are visiting restaurants. People should prioritize hygiene and opt for nutritious home-cooked meals.”
