Pune | March 2, 2026 – Parents of a Class 9 student from Orchid International School, Tathawade, have raised serious concerns over what they describe as an unjust and disproportionate decision by the school to ask their child to leave following a low score in a single mathematics paper.

In a written appeal, the parents stated that their child, who has been studying under the CBSE curriculum with an annual fee of over ₹1.5 lakh, is now facing expulsion due to poor performance in one subject. They described the decision as “devastating,” saying no parent expects their child to face humiliation, fear, and emotional trauma over a marginal shortfall in marks.

The parents have also questioned the academic process and teaching standards, alleging that the class mathematics teacher was absent for a significant period during the final term due to personal commitments. According to them, several important topics were rushed through at the last moment, raising concerns about the quality and fairness of teaching and assessment.

They further claimed that out of 27 students, nearly 12 were marked as failed, questioning accountability within the school system.

“If such a large number of students have performed poorly, the responsibility cannot lie only with the children,” the parents stated, adding that the teacher’s conduct and teaching methodology should also be reviewed.

The family expressed deep concern about the mental and emotional impact on their child, who now fears losing an entire academic year and the confidence built over years of schooling. They also argued that there is no academic rule that prevents a student scoring between 35% and 50% from progressing to Class 10, calling the school’s decision unfair and harmful to the child’s future.

In their appeal, the parents have requested urgent intervention, seeking:

  • Reassessment of the mathematics paper
  • An independent review of teaching and evaluation methods
  • Compassionate consideration of the case
  • Any alternative solution that allows the student to continue studies without losing the academic year

The parents have urged the school management and concerned authorities to act with fairness, sensitivity, and responsibility, stressing that the issue is not just academic, but one of a child’s mental well-being and long-term future.

As of now, there has been no official response from the school management regarding the allegations or the parents’ request.
