Pune: Residents of Bhekrai Nagar Phursungi are troubled by encroachments by several vegetable vendors, stalls etc.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, a resident of Bhekrai Nagar, Phursungi, requesting anonymity said, “Several vegetable sellers and stalls simply install their businesses on the nearby footpaths, especially during evening time. This has caused us to resort to walking on the road. These vendors are requested many times but they simply don’t listen. Also, just outside the Police Chowki, there is no parking board. Still, several vehicles are parked over there.”

Another Bhekrai Nagar resident, requesting anonymity said, “Encroachment has become a prevalent issue over here. Along with vegetable vendors & other stalls, a Chinese Fast Food stall also remains parked here, occupying so much space that people simply cannot walk.”

Another Bhekrai Nagar resident, requesting anonymity said, “The road from Deshpande Petrol Pump to Kumar Infinia has been completely encroached on by vegetable vendors, illegal stalls and hoardings. After complaining several times to PCMC and regular follow-ups, an anti encroachment drive was conducted yesterday at 7:45 in the evening. However, half an hour after the drive, the vegetable vendors again started putting their stalls on the road. No parking boards are put on the road however vehicles are parked in the front despite it being a mere 10 meters away from the Phursungi police post. To resolve the encroachment and traffic issue, regular anti-encroachment drives have to be conducted and traffic police have to initiate action against wrong parking defaulters.”

Pankaj Palkudtewar, encroachment officer, PMC said, “In the anti-encroachment drive conducted, we have removed several vegetable vendors & stalls in Bhekrai Nagar. Regular anti-encroachment drives will be conducted everywhere. If anyone is found encroaching a space, they will have to face strict action.”
