Pune: PM Modi Likely to Inaugurate Swargate Metro Route Next Week
Metro extension, election campaign launch anticipated during Prime Minister’s visit
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit the city on September 26 and 27 to inaugurate the underground metro route from Civil Court to Swargate. In addition, he is likely to lay the foundation stone for extending the metro line from Swargate to Katraj and inaugurate the elevated metro route from Pimpri Chinchwad to Nigdi.

– Metro Expansion: The underground metro route from Shivajinagar to Swargate is complete, while the extension from Swargate to Katraj has been approved. The extension aims to improve the city’s transportation network.
– Inauguration Event: Scheduled for September 27, the ceremony will include a speech by the Prime Minister at SP College ground, marking the official start of operations for the new metro section and the foundation stone laying for future projects.
– Preparations Underway: On September 11, the Chief Secretary held a video conference with the Divisional Commissioner to review preparations. Further coordination took place on September 12 with Dr. Chandrakant Pulkundwar leading the discussions among various departments.
Election Campaign Kickoff
As Maharashtra Assembly elections approach, PM Modi’s visit is also seen as the potential launch of the election campaign for the Mahayuti alliance. BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy CM Ajit Pawar are expected to join Modi, marking a significant show of unity.
Security Measures
In light of the Prime Minister’s visit, the district administration has imposed a ban on air activities like paragliding, hot air balloon safaris, drone use and microlight flights for the duration of the event, ensuring heightened security.
