As part of the anti-encroachment drive, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) demolished several illegal shops set up in Budhwar Peth to create parking spaces.

According to a senior PMC official, resident complaints served as the basis for the demolition action. There will be plans for these demolitions across all the civic areas. In the initial phase of this drive, the PMC will concentrate on Peth areas.

Activists said that officials who disregarded these unlawful constructions ought to face consequences from the administration as well. According to an activist, the encroachments are making the residents suffer. Such unlawful constructions should be dealt with strictly by the administration. It must happen promptly and without fail.

Another activist stated that without the assistance of local politicians and civic officials, commercial activities cannot be started. These people’s nexus is causing several areas to suffer from encroachments. Only if senior officials are held accountable will they be reduced.

According to PMC officials, to prevent mishaps, the city’s civic administration has been taking action against unauthorized structures in various parts of the city. In slum areas of Shivaji Nagar, Kasba Peth, Vadgaon Sheri, Ambegaon, Kothrud, Katraj, NIBM Road, and Pashan, illegal shed structures and concrete houses were demolished. Both commercial and residential establishments were the targets of action.
