Pune: PMC Calls Meeting To Address Audit Queries On Land Management Amid ₹400 Crore Irregularities
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has finally called a meeting to address 36 pending audit queries related to land management, after repeated reminders from the principal accountant general of the Indian Audit and Accounts Department (IAAD). The meeting, scheduled for Tuesday at the PMC headquarters, comes after the IAAD highlighted alleged irregularities amounting to ₹400 crore in the PMC’s land asset management.
According to sources, the asset management audit, conducted for the period between 2018-19 and 2022-23, revealed several lapses, including non-recovery of rent from leased lands, improper property transfers, and inadequate adherence to procedural norms.
Civic activist Vivek Velankar, who accessed the letters under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, criticized the PMC’s inaction, stating that the administration’s apathy indicates a lack of interest in addressing critical issues of governance.
The PMC has received 36 memoranda requiring responses to queries related to land management, but despite repeated reminders, the civic body failed to address them. The additional commissioner has now called for a meeting, directing all department heads to attend with the audit office’s queries and supporting documents.
Velankar emphasized the need for action, stating that the audit revealed ₹400 crore in leakages from asset mismanagement, which can be recovered if the administration acts, strengthening the civic body’s finances while talking to media.
