Pune: PMC Clears ₹135 Crore Water Project To Boost Supply In Keshavnagar And Mundhwa
Pune, March 28, 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) standing committee on Friday approved a ₹135-crore water supply project for Keshavnagar in Mundhwa, aiming to strengthen infrastructure in recently merged areas and address persistent water shortages.
The project includes laying a 6.19-km main pipeline with diameters ranging from 200 mm to 800 mm, installation of a 600 kW high-capacity pumping system, and development of a 71.5-km distribution network. To maintain steady water pressure, six overhead storage tanks with capacities between 2.5 to 3.5 million litres each will also be constructed.
Officials said the initiative is designed to provide a long-term solution to water scarcity and reduce reliance on private water tankers, which have been a costly necessity for residents in these areas.
The civic body plans to roll out the funding in phases across three financial years — 2026–27, 2027–28, and 2028–29. Authorities noted that while earlier funds had been diverted to other merged villages, a dedicated allocation for Keshavnagar was now considered essential.
The proposal will be placed before the general body for final approval under Section 72(B) of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporations Act, 1949.
According to officials from the water supply department, the infrastructure has been planned to accommodate future population growth, ensuring sustainability over the long term.
In addition to the water project, the standing committee approved ₹1.79 crore for constructing a residential hostel for tribal and underprivileged students, part of a ₹3 crore plan finalized through a tendering process. Funds were also sanctioned for development and renovation works at Gadikhana Hospital in Kasba Peth.
