Pune | March 4, 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) carried out a major demolition drive on Wednesday morning, removing illegal constructions across multiple locations in Viman Nagar. The action, conducted on March 4, 2026, focused primarily on unauthorized front margin extensions that had encroached upon public spaces and violated civic norms.
Among the prominent establishments affected was the popular eatery, Rameshwaram Cafe, where illegal front margin construction was demolished as part of the operation. Civic officials stated that the drive was undertaken to ensure compliance with development control regulations and to restore pedestrian access and road visibility in the area.
The demolition squad also took action at several other key spots, including the front margin near Neco Garden, Sambar Hotel Lane, Krishna Hotel Chowk, and Ganpati Mandir Chowk. Structures extending beyond permissible limits were razed using heavy machinery under police protection.
According to PMC officials, approximately 6,500 square feet of unauthorized construction was removed during the drive. Authorities said the operation was planned following prior notices issued to violators and complaints regarding obstruction, congestion, and safety concerns in the bustling locality.
Civic authorities reiterated that similar enforcement drives will continue across the city to curb illegal constructions and ensure adherence to building regulations. Residents have welcomed the move, stating that strict action is necessary to maintain urban order and prevent misuse of public spaces in rapidly developing areas like Viman Nagar.
