Pune: PMC Deploys 4,570 Personnel, Over 1,200 Machines For Monsoon Emergencies; 24x7 Control Room On Alert
Pune, July 8, 2026: In view of the ongoing heavy rainfall and the possibility of flooding, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has strengthened its disaster management preparedness by deploying 4,570 personnel and more than 1,200 pieces of emergency equipment across the city.
According to the PMC Disaster Management Department, a 24×7 central control room is continuously monitoring the situation and coordinating with all zonal offices, ward offices and key civic departments to ensure a swift response to any emergency.

To streamline operations during flood-related incidents, the civic body has implemented a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). Engineers, civic staff and Assistant Municipal Commissioners, designated as Incident Commanders, have been deployed across vulnerable locations. The central control room is also staffed by personnel from the police wireless unit, fire brigade, road, sewerage and disaster management departments to facilitate real-time coordination.
Extensive Manpower and Equipment Deployed
The PMC has mobilised a workforce comprising 50 Chief Health Inspectors, 70 Sanitation Inspectors, 400 Sanitation Supervisors, 4,000 sanitation workers and 50 spraying staff, taking the total deployment to 4,570 personnel.
To tackle waterlogging, flooding and related emergencies, the civic body has kept the following machinery ready:
- 500 diesel pumps
- 104 JCB excavators
- 42 dumpers
- 24 Hyva trucks
- 77 jetting machines
- 294 tippers
- 131 light vehicles
- 35 compactors
- 20 garbage collection vehicles
- 10 bin lifters
- 12 fogging machines
- 50 spray pumps, along with other emergency equipment.
Additionally, 49 flood assistance centres have been established at the ward level in flood-prone locations across the city. The PMC said all departments have been placed on high alert to ensure immediate assistance and a coordinated response in the event of flooding or any other monsoon-related emergency.
