Pune, 28 August 2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has initiated plans to develop a public garden in Mouje Undri, covering portions of Survey No. 4 and 21 in Haveli taluka next to Nyati Esteban. This step comes after consistent appeals from local residents and civic officials.
Earlier this year, the Mohammadwadi-Undri Residents Welfare Development Foundation submitted an application to the PMC Garden Department, requesting the creation of a community garden. The foundation had submitted a letter to the PMC in 16 April 2025.
The members of the foundation took Naval Kishor Ram, Commissioner, PMC for a site visit where the garden is demanded by the residents. He also assured that if things perfect it can be developed into a garden.
Following a site inspection, the Garden Department confirmed that the earmarked amenity space, measuring about 12,635.86 sq. meters, is suitable for development. The plot already has a boundary wall and an approach road, making it feasible for public use. With no major garden in the vicinity, the project is expected to provide much-needed green space for the growing population in the area.
Sunil Iyer, a long-time resident and member of the Mohammadwadi-Undri Residents Welfare Development Foundation, said, “I have been living in Undri for 20 years. In this time, there has only been construction of buildings with little civic development. We have lacked drinking water and even a place to walk. Now that a garden is likely to come up, it feels like a positive sign. I hope it is completed soon.”
Residents of Undri have been eagerly waiting to see development projects like this for a long time and if this garden comes up it would definitely be a great amenity for the locals. As, despite being in the PMC limits since last 8 years, there has been no development in the area.
Sunil Koloti from Mohammadwadi–Undri Residents Welfare Development Foundation (MURWDF) said, “We are grateful to Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram for personally visiting Undri and Mohammadwadi and acknowledging the pressing need for basic amenities such as reliable water supply, proper drainage, streetlights, and safer roads. His on-ground assessment gave him a real picture of the challenges residents face daily. We are especially encouraged by his positive response to our request for developing the amenity space next to Nyati Eternity into a garden with walking and jogging tracks. This will not only create much-needed green cover but also provide a safe recreational zone for senior citizens and residents, who currently risk their lives walking alongside water tankers, RMC trucks, and heavy traffic. With recent tragic incidents on our roads, this initiative will bring both safety and quality of life to our community. We have already submitted a formal letter to the Garden Department on 16 April 2025 for the said space at Survey No. 4 (part) and 21 (part), next to Nyati Esteban and we are hopeful that PMC will act swiftly on this request. We look forward to timely execution of these commitments for the well-being of our citizens.”
The proposal has been forwarded to the Amenity Space Committee for approvals. Junior Engineer Vishal Pathak, Deputy Engineer Amit Shete, and Chief Garden Superintendent Dr. Ashok Ghorpade have collectively submitted the plan for further action.
Residents expressed optimism that the new garden will not only enhance recreational options but also contribute to a greener and healthier neighborhood.
