Pune, December 8, 2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has begun groundwork to set up more than 4,000 polling stations across 41 wards for the upcoming municipal elections. The draft voters’ list for these wards currently includes 35.51 lakh registered voters, with each polling booth likely to cater to 900–1,000 electors.

Officials from PMC’s election department have started identifying suitable locations for polling stations. Ward offices have been instructed to submit their initial proposals, and a preliminary list is expected within the next 10 days. “Even though the State Election Commission is yet to declare the election schedule, preparations are underway. Teams are evaluating accessibility, road links and basic infrastructure before finalising locations,” an election department official said.

The final number of polling stations will be determined after field inspections, with the possibility of additional booths in newly merged areas that will be participating in civic polls for the first time.

Meanwhile, the scrutiny of objections submitted for corrections in the electoral rolls is progressing rapidly. More than 22,000 objections were filed by citizens before the December 3 deadline, many of them related to shifting voter names from one ward to another.

Teams are conducting on-site verifications and also making suo motu corrections where significant inter-ward transfers appear necessary.
