Pune: PMC Revokes Suspension Of Officials In Pashan Lake Fish Death Case
Pune, May 21, 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has revoked the suspension orders issued against five civic officials in connection with the Pashan Lake fish death incident and reinstated them in different departments.
The decision comes weeks after thousands of fish were found dead in Pashan Lake due to polluted water, sparking criticism over alleged negligence by civic authorities. Following an inspection visit, PMC Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram had reportedly found discrepancies between the information submitted by officials and the actual conditions at the lake site.
Acting on the matter, PMC had suspended Executive Engineers Ajaykumar Wayse and Atulkumar Kadu, along with Divisional Health Inspector Vijay Bhoir and Health Inspector Vinayak Chopde on April 10. Departmental inquiries were also initiated against the four officials, and the move had created significant discussion within the civic administration.
In a separate administrative matter, Yogita Jaibhay, Superintendent and acting Administrative Officer from the General Administration Department, had also been suspended over alleged procedural irregularities linked to appointment proposals. The administration had claimed that recommendations under the Lad-Page Committee were forwarded for approval without being placed before the designated committee, allegedly violating established procedures. Additional Commissioner Prajit Nair had ordered her suspension and departmental inquiry.
However, PMC has now withdrawn all suspension orders and cancelled the departmental inquiries against the officials. Instead, the civic administration has reinstated them and transferred them to different departments.
As part of the reshuffle, Yogita Jaibhay has been transferred from the General Administration Department to the Aundh-Baner Regional Office.
The earlier suspensions were viewed as a strong message on accountability and negligence within the civic administration. Sources within PMC indicated that efforts were being made internally to seek relief for the suspended officials, following which the administration decided to reverse the disciplinary action.
