Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has initiated action against seven private hospitals for non-compliance with regulatory norms. This comes as part of a statewide inspection campaign following repeated complaints of rule violations by private medical establishments.

Over the past week, PMC’s health department inspected 135 private hospitals in the city, uncovering violations in seven of them. Show-cause notices have been issued to these hospitals.

Inspection Drive Highlights
The inspection covers all private hospitals providing medical services, including those offering Allopathy, AYUSH, Unani, and Naturopathy treatments. However, day-care centers, where patients are not admitted for 24 hours, are excluded.

Fifteen teams, each comprising a regional health officer, nurse, and staff member, are conducting inspections across the city’s 15 regional offices. The checks include verifying hospital registration under the Bombay Nursing Home Act, ensuring compliance with prescribed staff-patient ratios, displaying rate charts prominently, and adherence to safety protocols such as fire safety clearance and biomedical waste management.

Findings and Actions
Assistant Health Officer Suryakant Devkar stated that the inspections revealed non-compliance with basic norms, including the absence of displayed treatment charges and patient rights charters. Notices have been issued to the erring hospitals, and further action will follow if they fail to address the concerns.

This ongoing drive aims to ensure that private healthcare facilities maintain transparency, safety, and compliance with established guidelines to safeguard public health.
