Pune: PMC To Install New Signboards At Chandani Chowk Flyover To Ease Commuter Confusion
Pune, March 6, 2025 – More than a year after the Chandani Chowk multi level flyover opened, commuters continue to struggle with unclear directions due to the lack of proper signboards. In response, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to install new and clearly visible signposts to improve navigation.
A recent PMC survey revealed that inadequate signboards on roads connecting Kothrud, Bavdhan, Pashan, and the Satara-Mumbai highway have led to widespread confusion among motorists. Many drivers, unfamiliar with the flyover’s layout, frequently take wrong turns, causing delays and frustration.
The ₹865-crore Chandani Chowk flyover, inaugurated in August 2023, was built to streamline traffic at a crucial junction connecting the Mumbai-Bangalore bypass, Mulshi Road, Paud Road, and Pashan Road. However, missing or poorly placed signboards have left commuters guessing their way through.
Following multiple complaints, PMC engineers conducted a survey last month. Over 50 motorists asked for directions to Mulshi, Mumbai, Kothrud, and Satara Road during the survey. While some signboards exist, they were installed incorrectly by the contractor. PMC has now identified the correct locations and floated a tender for proper installation.
Local commuters voiced their concerns. A motorist driving to Khadi machine chowk shared, “I was headed to Khadi machine chowk ahead of Katraj but ended up in Kothrud due to the lack of signage. I had to take a long detour to get back on the right route.”
A motorist emphasized the need for better visibility, saying, “The signposts are too small. Larger boards are necessary to prevent confusion.”
With the tender process underway, the PMC aims to have the new signboards installed soon, ensuring smoother traffic movement and better guidance for commuters using the Chandani Chowk flyover.
