The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) is developing an 83-kilometer Inner Ring Road. As part of the first phase, five multimodal hubs will be created along this road, providing multiple transport options in one location. The PMRDA’s draft development plan has a total of 13 multimodal hubs, and recently, approval was granted to prioritize five of these hubs.

The five locations identified for the development of multimodal hubs are Solu, Wagholi, Kadamwakwasti, Bhillarewadi, and Bhugaon. The total cost for land acquisition and construction for these hubs is estimated at ₹370.13 crore. The hubs will be developed on a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.

The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the road between Nirangudi and Vadgaon Shinde in the first phase of the Ring Road has already been prepared. The DPR for the stretch between Solu and Nirangudi is currently under review by the College of Engineering Pune (COEP). Despite several attempts, PMRDA Chief Engineer Ashok Bhalekar did not respond to inquiries about the project’s status.

Although land acquisition for the Ring Road is in progress, the actual construction work is expected to begin only after the Assembly election code of conduct is lifted. According to administrative sources, a total of 37.5 hectares of land is being acquired for the road at Solu, Nirangudi, and Vadgaon Shinde.
