The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority’s (PMRDA) draft development plan for the Pune metropolitan region has been thrown into uncertainty. This comes after the state government transferred construction permissions for a one-kilometer radius along the Ring Road to the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) .

The decision, aimed at expediting the Ring Road project, has sparked concerns about the potential derailment of PMRDA’s development plan. The plan, which covers around 7,000 square kilometers, is awaiting court approval and may face delays due to overlapping jurisdictions.

MSRDC has been granted the status of a special planning authority, taking over construction permissions in 117 villages located in Haveli, Bhor, Purandar, and Mulshi tehsils. This move has raised questions about the impact on long-term planning in the Pune metropolitan region.

PMRDA Commissioner Yogesh Mhase stated that while the state government’s decision will ease pressure on infrastructure development in 117 villages, it will also result in revenue loss from development charges in these areas .

The court hearing for the PMRDA draft development plan is scheduled for December 4, and the newly formed state government will need to finalize the plan.
