Pune Police Arrest Auto-Rickshaw Driver Who Dumped Injured Senior Citizen Near Railway Line, Leading to Death
Police have arrested the accused, 25-year-old Israel Mangla Gurjar, a resident of Amroha in Uttar Pradesh.
Pune police have arrested an auto-rickshaw driver allegedly responsible for the death of a 63-year-old man after dumping him near a railway line instead of taking him to a hospital. The incident had occurred four months ago.
The deceased, Gopal Govind Wagh, a resident of Balewadi, was found dead near the Khadki railway line on July 21. His family had filed a missing person complaint at Baner police station after he failed to return home on July 20 following a ride on his two-wheeler.
CCTV footage revealed that Wagh was hit by an auto-rickshaw near New Poona Bakery at Balewadi Phata around 4:45 pm. The driver, with the help of local residents, placed Wagh in the rickshaw but allegedly abandoned him later at a secluded spot near the railway line. Wagh was discovered the next day, unconscious, and later pronounced dead at a hospital.
Police identified and arrested the accused, Israel Mangla Gurjar (25), a native of Amroha, Uttar Pradesh, who had fled Pune and was hiding in Delhi. The arrest followed a week-long search led by Assistant Police Inspector K B Daberao.
The auto-rickshaw was seized, and investigations revealed it had been provided to Gurjar by its owner. Gurjar was produced before a Pune court and remanded to police custody until December 10 for further investigation, said Senior Police Inspector Chandrashekhar Sawant of Baner police station.
