In an enthralling series of events, Pune Police were involved in an action packed chase; detectives of the crime branch captured 2 young criminals.

The accused have been identified as 18-year-old Navnath Nilesh Wadkar, also known as Ajinkya, and Ketan Suraj Salunke. The Assistant Commissioner of Police in the crime branch, Sunil Tambe, commented on the arrest and said that the officers have confiscated a country-made gun from Wadkar’s possession. It has also come to light that Wadkar is a resident of Janta Vasahat Slum near Parvati Hill in Pune.

The police had acted upon a notification or tip off given by one of their sources and casted around the entire Paud area searching for Wadkar. He had been accused of armed robbery in a case filed at the Sinhagad police station and was wanted for the same.

Police saw Wadkar and his assistant riding a two-wheeler from Kharwade village to Pune city at approximately 11 in the morning. They were being pursued by a police squad on private two-wheelers. The culprit allegedly tossed his cell phone at the police team and quickly performed a u-turn to flee the scene on his two-wheeler as the police attempted to stop him close to Mutha Ghat.

He ducked under the police car and began to flee as they attempted to stop him again. However, the police continued pursuing him. He allegedly shot a bullet from his handgun at the police squad on the Mutha-Bahuli route. Police sub-inspector Shrikant Chavan of the crime branch retaliated by firing three shots at Wadkar.

The police then caught Wadkar and his partner-in-crime Salunke and slapped on them fresh charges of assaulting police officers. The latter was filed in the Paud Police station. The Commissioner of Pune city police has lauded the Crime Branch’s fruitful efforts and declared a reward of Rs. 1 Lakh for the crime branch team for apprehending both of them.
