Pune Police Clarifies Business Hours: These Shops Can Stay Open 24x7, Others Face Action After 10 PM
Pune, June 8, 2026: The Pune Police have clarified that all authorized and licensed shops and commercial establishments in the city are permitted to remain open 24 hours a day under existing laws, putting to rest confusion among the trading community regarding operating hours. However, food streets, hawkers, street vendors, pan stalls, and similar businesses will be allowed to operate only until 10 PM.
A special coordination meeting was held at the Pune Police Commissioner’s Office to address concerns raised by traders regarding shop timings, enforcement by police authorities, and improving coordination between the business community and the police administration.
The meeting was attended by Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, Joint Commissioner of Police Sanjay Darade, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Tejaswi Satpute, BJP Traders’ Cell President Mahesh Gupta, and representatives of various traders’ associations.
During the meeting, it was also decided to appoint a dedicated nodal officer to ensure the swift resolution of complaints and issues faced by traders. The move is expected to strengthen communication between the business community and the police while providing traders with an official platform to raise their concerns.
Officials emphasized that the police administration and traders’ organizations would work together to safeguard business interests while maintaining law and order across the city.
Clarifying the operational guidelines, Commissioner Amitesh Kumar stated that all licensed shops and establishments can legally conduct business round the clock. However, roadside stalls, handcart vendors, hawkers, pan shops, and similar businesses will be permitted to operate only until 10 PM.
The decision is expected to bring uniformity in enforcement and remove confusion regarding business hours in different parts of the city. Traders’ associations have welcomed the clarification and the measures announced during the meeting.
