Pune Police Commissioner Highlights Need For Rules For Pubs, Not Opposed To Pub Culture

Pune Rape Case: ₹1 Lakh Reward For Final Tip-Off, Police Commissioner To Honor Locals
Pune: Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar clarified that the police are not opposed to pubs or cultural events but emphasized the need for strict adherence to regulations to ensure public convenience and safety. The remarks were made during a “Coffee with CP” event organized by the Police Aarogya Mitra Foundation and Subhashnagar Madiwale Colony Mandal.
Addressing concerns about the growing pub culture in Pune, Kumar stated, “The city has seen a rise in the number of migrants, including students and IT professionals, which has led to the emergence of pub culture. While there is no opposition to pubs or music events, violations and public disturbances, such as loud noise late at night, cannot be tolerated.”
He highlighted that incidents like the Kalyani Nagar accident prompted the introduction of guidelines for pub owners. Regulations require adherence to noise levels, control over public disturbances, and compliance with licensing norms. The commissioner urged Pune residents to oppose violations of sound pollution norms, especially during festivals.
Commissioner Kumar also addressed traffic issues caused by ongoing metro construction on Ganeshkhind Road. He instructed metro authorities to complete the Shivajinagar-Hinjewadi metro line by February 28, 2025, and to remove barricades and repair potholes to ease traffic flow. Further technical work, including station construction, is to proceed only after these steps are completed.
