Pune Police Commissioner in order to maintain law and order, Amitesh Kumar has extended the implementation of Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) in and around Pune’s restaurants, bars, pubs, and similar establishments until March 31. Meanwhile, city restaurants voiced their displeasure, claiming the current extension was unnecessary.

While doing so, it was discovered that many of these establishments have been operating past the 1.30 am deadline plus a half-hour grace period to close, in defiance of prior orders to adhere to closing deadlines.

The directives in question were issued by Kumar on Monday night, and he stated that they would be in effect until March 31.

The Commissioner stated that he has been made aware of certain incidents that may have an impact on public safety and order that are being reported in and around Pune City’s restaurants, bars, and permit rooms. Certain proprietors of these establishments are intentionally committing acts that result in these incidents or are not taking the necessary precautions to prevent them. A few are also flagrantly breaking laws and regulations, which leads to unpleasant situations.

The police claim that some of the establishments’ patrons are also acting erratically and creating a disturbance on the roadways, which makes other visitors and locals feel uneasy.
