Pune Police Launches I Bikes For Enhanced Crime Scene Evidence Collection
01/08/2024
The Pune Police Department has introduced new investigative bikes, enhancing their ability to collect physical evidence from crime scenes. Following the implementation of new laws from 01/07/2024, it is now mandatory for forensic teams to visit crime scenes involving crimes punishable by seven years or more. As part of this initiative, the Pune Police Commissioner has directed the deployment of two investigative bikes, each manned by four officers.
These bikes will facilitate rapid response to crime scenes, with officers trained to collect, preserve, and seal evidence systematically. Training was provided by experts from the Regional Forensic Science Laboratory, Ganeshkhind, Pune. Additionally, 20 officers have been trained in evidence collection and will be assigned to different regions.
To support the new initiative, 10 walkie-talkies and wireless sets have been provided to ensure timely communication about crimes and locations. The new bikes were officially inaugurated on August 1, 2024 by Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, with the presence of senior police officials and other dignitaries.
