Pune Police Map 2,576 Crime Hotspots, Enhance Patrolling Under Cop24 Initiative
Maharashtra Cabinet Approves Recruitment For 14,000 Police Posts
Pune police have identified 2,576 crime hotspots across the city, with the highest concentration falling under Zone V and Zone III, according to officials. To combat rising crime, law enforcement has intensified patrolling efforts under the Cop24 initiative, ensuring surveillance in these areas five times a day.
Enhanced Policing Through Technology
As part of the initiative, patrolling teams log their observations in the MySafe and Dial 100 apps, allowing for real-time monitoring of crime trends. The crime branch has also compiled a database of 30,000 criminals, now accessible via the MySafe Crime Module app. This data includes offenders’ addresses, previous offenses, and recent cases, enabling swift action by local police stations.
Improved Response Time and Crime Prevention
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis introduced Cop24 to strengthen law enforcement and minimize police response time. The system, centrally managed by the crime branch, combines technology, data analytics, and traditional policing to enhance public safety, particularly in high-crime areas.
Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar highlighted the impact of these efforts while speaking to Hindustan Times, stating that street crimes, as well as murder and attempted murder cases, have significantly declined due to hotspot mapping and enhanced surveillance. “By mapping over 2,500 crime hotspots and maintaining an updated dossier of 30,000 criminals, we are improving response time and ensuring swift police action,” he said.
Future Goals
The police have set a target to reduce murder-related crimes by over six percent compared to the previous year. They are also working on better patrolling strategies for identified red zone areas, ensuring a more effective approach to tackling crime in Pune.
