Pune, June 5, 2026: An 82-year-old Pune resident suffering from memory loss was safely reunited with his family after police traced him to the Pune–Mumbai Expressway near Khandala.
According to police, the elderly man left his home on a scooter on May 30 and later lost his way. Although he remained in contact with his family over the phone, he was unable to explain his location. Worried about his safety, his family approached Warje Malwadi Police Station and sought assistance.
During the inquiry, police came to know that the man had been experiencing memory-related issues due to his age. His daughter stayed in constant touch with him, but repeated attempts to determine his whereabouts were unsuccessful.

While speaking with the man on the phone, officers noticed the sound of heavy traffic in the background. This led them to suspect that he might be near a major highway. Police then sought technical assistance to trace the location of his mobile phone.
The phone’s location data indicated that the man was near Khandala on the Pune–Mumbai Expressway, approximately 75 kilometres from Pune. Considering the dangers posed by speeding vehicles and the onset of darkness, police immediately launched a search operation.
Using the mobile location, officers reached the area and successfully located the elderly man. He was found safe, and his family was informed. The man was later reunited with his relatives.
Police said the rescue was made possible through swift action, effective coordination, and the use of technology. The incident also highlights the challenges faced by elderly people living with memory-related conditions and underscores the importance of promptly reporting missing persons cases.
