Pune: Police have taken strict action against the ‘Unicorn House’ pub located in the Kalyaninagar area. The establishment has been officially sealed by the authorities.

The action follows a verbal altercation between two groups near the pub on the night of Thursday, April 11. Upon receiving information about the incident, Yerawada police rushed to the scene. The pub was shut down around midnight, and cleaning work was reportedly underway inside at the time.

Senior Police Inspector Ravindra Shelke of Yerawada Police Station confirmed that although a scuffle took place outside the pub, no official complaint was lodged by any of the involved parties.

Previously, two criminal cases and ten legal proceedings had been filed against the same pub. Legal action has now been taken under Section 142(2) of the Maharashtra Prohibition Act, 1949, and the pub has been sealed to prevent further misconduct, police said. Originally known as ‘Elora’, the pub was later renamed ‘Unicorn House’ and is currently operating under the name ‘Budget Room’, according to police sources.

Last year, a fatal accident involving a speeding car claimed the lives of a young software engineer couple in the Kalyaninagar area. Following the incident, residents raised complaints about pubs in Kalyaninagar and Koregaon Park remaining open late into the night. This prompted action from police, state excise authorities, and the district administration, leading to the sealing of 50 pubs.

Police had earlier issued guidelines for pub, bar, and restaurant owners regarding late-night operations. Despite prior actions, new complaints have emerged about pubs in the area continuing to operate past midnight.
