Pune Police Takes Tough Stance: Drunk Drivers May Face Immediate Licence Cancellations

Pune: In order to tackle the rising menace of drink and drive cases, the Pune Police has proposed to cancel the license of the driver, who is caught driving under the influence of alcohol. The proposal has been sent to the court for approval. Despite imposing hefty fines and penalties, these cases continue to grow.
Several recent incidents in Pune wherein people were killed brutally were linked to drunk driving. Notably, incidents like the Porsche Car case killing two engineers and another case of hitting two policemen on the Mumbai – Pune Expressway have underlined the seriousness of the issue.
The police are now on high alert and are awaiting the court’s decision to cancel the driving license in drink and drive cases. There are strict penalties for drunk drivers such as a fine of Rs. 10,000 when caught for the first time which can go up to Rs.15,000 for the second time, and even lead to imprisonment in some cases if the offense is too severe.
It is important to make a serious note of drunk driving cases that are increasing day by day and it will be essential to know how seriously the issue is taken.
