Pune : Portion of parking lot caves in Girija Shankar Vihar society in Karve Nagar

A large portion of a parking area near an old well in Girija Shankar Vihar society located in karve nagar caved in on Monday night, following which a team of Pune Municipal Corporation promptly visited the spot to repair. 

The ditch was closed to the column of the building and was 10 feet deep and 6 feet wide. The incident took place near F 2 building parking space. The plant located at Jambhulwadi was requested to open at midnight. Since the plant was located at a far off distance it took time for two concrete mix vehicles to reach the accident spot. The work was over at 2.30 AM. The PMC has written a letter to the Girija Shankar Vihar society to avert similar incidents in the future.

Bipin Shiden, executive engineer, Pune Municipal Corporation said, “The site was visited by the structural engineers. The ditch was filled with cement concrete mix.” 

A private contractor Nikhil Constructions’s plant at Katraj was opened at night to assist in the repair of the ditch. While fixing the ditch the gas pipeline and water pipeline were checked too and the ditch was repaired. The incident may have been caused because of the well which might have weakened the soil.
