Symbiosis International University had to postpone its 21st convocation ceremony, originally set for July 29, 2024. The decision was made due to the rescheduling of President Draupadi Murmu’s visit to Maharashtra, which was supposed to coincide with the ceremony.
In their official statement, Symbiosis University expressed regret over the situation. They mentioned, “We deeply regret to inform you that the President of India has postponed her visit to the State of Maharashtra scheduled from 28th to 30th July, 2024, vide communication dated 26th July, 2024. The Office of the President of India has also communicated to the University that due to unavoidable circumstances, the acceptance of the invitation to the Convocation scheduled on 29th July, 2024 stands postponed.”
In their statement, the university also mentioned the ongoing heavy rainfall and the advisory from the Department of Disaster Management, Government of Maharashtra as contributing factors to the decision. They stated, “Due to continued heavy rainfalls in and around the city of Pune and release of water from dams, the Department of Disaster Management, Govt. of Maharashtra has advised to exercise caution.”
The university recognized the potential disappointment this delay might bring and reassured students and their families that a new date for the convocation would be arranged. They mentioned, “We understand the significance of Convocation as a milestone in our students’ academic journey and the disappointment that this news may bring to them. The University will plan the Convocation Ceremony at a later date to celebrate the achievements of our students. In the meantime, we appreciate the cooperation from our students and their parents at this time.”
