Pune: Parents of primary school students in Pune will need to adjust to a new school schedule over the next two months. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has announced a temporary change in the timings of primary schools within its jurisdiction from July 1 to August 31, 2026.

The revised timings will apply to both municipal and private primary schools in the PMC area.
According to the civic administration, primary schools will now function from 7:00 am to 12:15 pm during this period. The decision has been taken as many teachers have been assigned duties for the Election Commission of India’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls.
Officials said the revised schedule aims to ensure that students do not suffer academic loss while allowing teachers sufficient time to carry out election-related responsibilities.
The Election Commission has launched the Special Intensive Revision campaign in Maharashtra and several other states and Union Territories to update and verify electoral rolls. The exercise includes identifying duplicate entries, removing names of deceased or ineligible voters and adding eligible voters to the electoral rolls.
As part of the campaign, teachers have been deployed as Booth Level Officers (BLOs) for door-to-door verification and voter list revision work.
The house-to-house verification process began on June 30 and will continue until July 29. The draft electoral roll is scheduled to be published on August 5, while claims and objections can be filed between August 5 and September 4. The final electoral roll will be published on October 7 after completion of the verification process.
