Police register case against three after raid reveals illegal activities under wellness cover
Pune Police have registered a case against three people for allegedly running a prostitution racket under the guise of an ayurvedic treatment centre in the Anandnagar area. The action was taken after the Crime Branch’s Immoral Human Trafficking and Trade Prevention Cell received specific information suggesting illegal activities at the centre.
According to police officials, the establishment was operating under the name of an ayurvedic or massage treatment centre and misleading customers by projecting itself as a wellness clinic. To verify the inputs, police sent decoy customers to the premises. During the operation, it was confirmed that prostitution was being carried out inside the centre.
Following confirmation, a police team conducted a raid at the Ayurvedic Treatment Centre located on Sinhagad Road in the Anandnagar area. During the raid, one woman was rescued. Police said the accused allegedly lured the woman with money and forced her into prostitution while running the operation under the cover of massage services.
A case has been registered against spa driver, a resident of Katraj and a person from Ambegaon under provisions of the Immoral Human Trafficking Prevention Act. A minor boy, who was allegedly working as a spa manager, has also been detained in connection with the case. Police has filed the complaint in this matter.
The action was carried out on Tuesday. During the raid, police seized cash, a mobile phone and other materials from the premises.
Senior Police Inspector led the operation along with police personnels. Officials said the investigation is ongoing and the names of some accused are not being disclosed at this stage.
Police are now probing whether more people are involved in the racket and checking if similar fake treatment centres are operating in nearby areas. Further investigation is underway.
