Massive Support for Young Educated NCP(SP) Candidate Jayesh Murkute in Mahaluge Ahead of Key Ward 9 Contest
Baner: In the newly added Mahaluge area of Pune Municipal Corporation’s limits, residents of Ward 9 are firmly backing Nationalist Congress Party Sharadchandra Pawar faction’s educated and young candidate Jayesh Murkute. His recent padyatra drew a strong and enthusiastic response, with a large turnout of local residents, including many women. People welcomed him along the route with traditional gestures of respect.
Mahaluge has been dealing with deteriorated roads, garbage issues, water scarcity and unresolved compensation concerns for land acquired from farmers. Acting as their voice, Jayesh Murkute launched a people’s agitation a few months ago under the banner “Akrosh Nishedh Andolan.”
During this movement, allegations were raised that residents had been misled under the idea of developing a Hi-Tech City since 2017. Citizens and farmers united through the protest and demonstrated strongly against the administration. The movement aimed to wake up the authorities and present real issues directly from the community.
Residents highlighted corruption in the Mahaluge town planning process, alleged attempts to block farmers’ lands for the benefit of builders, lack of coordination between PMC and PMRDA, poor civic amenities, bad roads, garbage problems, DP plan issues and traffic concerns.
The outcome of this agitation is now visible. Mahaluge, which recently came under PMC, is showing strong support for Jayesh Murkute, the only young and educated candidate from the Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party in this ward.
The contest in Ward 9, which is widely watched across Pune, has now reached a decisive phase. With BJP, NCP and the Sharad Pawar-led faction in the fray, the entry of Jayesh Murkute has made the fight more competitive. His planned campaign, modern outreach methods and growing support from educated working-class voters appear to be strengthening his position. This signals a tougher battle ahead for BJP, NCP and strong independent aspirants in the ward.
