Pune, November 4, 2025: With the motto of “Reformation and Rehabilitation”, the Yerawada Central Prison in Pune continues to focus on creating a positive mindset among inmates through cultural, social, and educational initiatives.

On Monday, November 3, 2025, the prison administration, in collaboration with the India Vision Foundation, Delhi, and SLB, inaugurated a unique initiative titled “Radio Parwaaz” for women inmates. The station was inaugurated by Dr. Kiran Bedi (Retd. IPS), former Governor of Puducherry.

The Radio Parwaaz program aims to bring hope and motivation to women prisoners through specially curated audio content. The broadcasts will include motivational talks, yoga and meditation sessions, legal awareness programs, spiritual and entertainment songs, stories of freedom fighters, Panchatantra tales, and discussions on women’s empowerment.

Officials stated that this initiative will help reduce feelings of despair among inmates and encourage a more positive outlook on life during their incarceration.

The event was attended by representatives from the India Vision Foundation, including Dr. Sudhakar Shetty, Govind Singh, Monica Dhawan, Saina Bharucha, Heena Qureshi, Sarika, Shilpa, Triveni, and Heena, as well as team members from SLB — Abuzar, Amit Yadav, Jayesh Prajapati, Dheeraj Gupta, Vaibhavi Manukar, Harshada Modak, and Riya Khanduri.

The initiative was conceptualized under the guidance of Dr. Suhas Warke (IPS), Additional Director General and Inspector General of Prisons and Correctional Services, Maharashtra, and supervised by Yogesh Desai, Special Inspector General of Prisons.

The project was successfully implemented under the supervision of Sunil N. Dhamal, Superintendent of Yerawada Central Prison, along with P.P. Kadam (Assistant Superintendent)Mrs. Maya Dhuture and Mrs. Nirmala Bandal (Prison Officers Grade I), and Rinakshi Gawli (Teacher).

Officials expressed confidence that Radio Parwaaz will become a model initiative for inmate rehabilitation and emotional well-being in prisons across Maharashtra.
