Pune Rain Alert: IMD Issues 4-Day Yellow Alert; Residents Advised to Carry Umbrellas
Pune weather update: IMD issues a 4-day yellow alert with rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds expected. Temperatures likely to drop, bringing relief from heatwave conditions.
Pune, April 19, 2026: After days of intense heat, residents of Pune can expect some relief as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a four-day ‘yellow alert’ for the city. The alert indicates the likelihood of light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds.
The city has been grappling with soaring temperatures, with daytime heat and warm nights causing discomfort among citizens. Over the past few days, the mercury had touched nearly 40°C. However, weather conditions are now expected to shift, bringing down temperatures gradually.
On Saturday, April 18, Pune recorded a slight dip in maximum temperature to 38°C. According to the IMD forecast, Sunday is expected to remain partly cloudy, with temperatures dropping further to around 37°C. By Monday, April 20, the maximum temperature could fall to nearly 36°C, offering much-needed respite from the prevailing heatwave.
The IMD has predicted light to moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning activity across Pune. Wind speeds may reach 30 to 40 kmph during this period, potentially impacting outdoor activities. Residents are advised to exercise caution while stepping out and carry umbrellas or rain gear.
Weather conditions are also turning favourable for rainfall across parts of Maharashtra, including regions such as Sangli, Satara, Solapur, Dharashiv, and Latur. Meanwhile, heatwave conditions are expected to persist in parts of Vidarbha, particularly in Akola and Amravati.
Authorities have urged citizens to remain alert, avoid unnecessary exposure during storm activity, and take necessary precautions as weather conditions evolve over the coming days.
