Pune Rains Disrupt Power Supply Across City; Restoration Work Underway
Pune, April 2, 2026: Heavy rain accompanied by thunder and strong winds on Thursday afternoon disrupted power supply in several parts of Pune and nearby areas, officials said. The sudden weather conditions caused faults in multiple extra high voltage (EHV) and high-voltage power lines, affecting electricity distribution across the city.
According to Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL), tree falls and waterlogging led to damage in power lines, while lightning strikes also caused tripping in several feeders. In many areas, feeder boxes were submerged due to accumulated rainwater, resulting in temporary outages.

In Kothrud, lightning damaged equipment on the Kundannagar feeder, disrupting supply, though electricity was later restored through alternative arrangements. A temporary outage was also reported due to tripping on the Nanded City EHV line.
In Shivajinagar division, areas including University Road, Khadki, Bavdhan, Baner, and Shivaji Housing Society experienced disruptions, with restoration work carried out in phases.

Parts of Pimpri-Chinchwad, especially Ravet, saw power cuts after a 22 kV line was affected, impacting multiple transformers. Efforts are ongoing to restore supply through alternate routes.
In Parvati, a fallen tree affected a feeder at the old substation, while waterlogging near feeder boxes disrupted supply in some localities. Similar issues were reported in Bund Garden and Rasta Peth divisions due to fallen branches and faults in high-voltage lines.
Officials said power supply in several affected areas has already been restored, while repair work continues on a priority basis in others. Citizens have been urged to remain patient and cooperate as teams work to normalize the situation.
